Carlos Casanova

Carlos Alberto Casanova Arostegui (Camagüey, Cuba, 1974) is an artist whose practice is rooted in the landscape as a site of aesthetic and spiritual revelation. Initially self-taught and later mentored by Lorenzo Linares Duque, he evolved from a naturalistic approach toward a contemporary visual language in which nature operates as symbol, metaphor, and threshold.

Drawing on traditions that range from European classical painting to the American Hudson River School, Casanova brings technical rigor to an essentially contemplative practice. Since 1999, his work has deepened its examination of the relationship between matter and transcendence — conceiving each image not as a representation of the world but as a space for reflection within it.

Working across photography and painting, he constructs a personal iconography in which landscape, faith, and human experience converge: the natural world rendered not as backdrop but as the primary language through which meaning is made.
